We live in an age where prices are constantly increasing. So your rent will need to increase periodically too.
However it is important that when increasing rent you do it the right way.
Otherwise your tenant is entitled to just carry on paying the old rent. If you bring proceedings for possession based on rent arrears – you will lose. You may even be ordered by the Judge to pay your tenants legal costs.
So best to get things right from the start.

This course is a series of seven videos, with links to supporting content and information on the web to help you.
The seven videos are:
- An introduction
- How to increase rent by agreement
- How to increase rent by notice
- How to increase rent by a rent review clause in your tenancy agreement
- How to increase rent for protected tenancies
- How to increase rent for common law / unregulated tenancies
- A discussion between Tessa Shepperson and Ben Reeve Lewis
Additional information includes
- a rent review clause draft for you to use in your tenancy agreements
- links to relevant posts on the Landlord Law Blog, and
- links to relevant government information sites.
You can watch the videos on your computer, and also on your iphone, ipad, or other mobile device – our special video software will work on all of these.
Videos are all fairly short so you can watch them at odd moments so as to make the best use of your time.
Who is the course by?
The videos are all written and created by solicitor Tessa Shepperson, who has been specialising in residential landlord and tenant law for many years.
How long do you get access to the course?
The subscription period is monthly. After the first month payments are at half price.
How much is it?
The price is £8.40 (which is £7 plus VAT). Subssequent months are at just £3.00 (which is £2.00 plus VAT) per month.
Why would you want access for more than one month? You may want to refer to the videos again. However it is easy to cancel if you decide you do not want to continue. We provide instructions on how to do this.
